Over the Past 3 years $635.3 MILLION dollars in Medicaid fraud and waste for community services have cost us dearly in taxes we paid to support unneccessary spending. $30 MILLION has been wasted on faulty construction on I-40 and $13 Million to repair a botched paving job on I-795 out of OUR tax dollars. Our legislature REJECTED a chance to establish TAX CREDITS for tuition that could have saved us $30 million dollars per year in wasteful spending. Our legislature REJECTED Tax credits for children with disabilities that could have saved us $5 million dollars in the first year, and yearly county savings of as much as $5 for some of our challenged counties.
North Carolina Legislature continues to send down new "unfunded mandates" that are programs the County is then forced to pay for without receiving any state tax dollar to pay for. Even now, Onslow County has received directives pushing up our local budget to support offices for parole staff, to pay for the TANF program from local funding, and other such issues that are going to end up costing Onslow between $889,000 and $1,400,000 or more next year.
I promise I will work to reduce spending at the State level and I will vote against EVERY initiative that costs the counties and municipalities more additional dollars for state or federally mandated programs without equivalent compensation. Simply, I oppose unfunded mandates from above. Our taxes that we pay are enough to fund our services that we need.
